Position: Coffee Procurement & Production Officer
Duty Station: Mbale, Uganda
Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary

MEACCE Ltd is seeking to recruit a competent and experienced Coffee Procurement & Production Officer to oversee the procurement of coffee from farmers and cooperatives, manage post-harvest production processes, and ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the value chain. This position is both office and field-based and requires a results-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with farming communities.

Key Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities of Procurement and Production Officer

1. Procurement

  • Coordinate and supervise the procurement of parchment and cherry coffee from farmers and cooperatives.
  • Ensure that all procured coffee meets MEACCE’s quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of procurement transactions and farmer deliveries.
  • Ensure daily accountability and reconciliation of funds disbursed for coffee purchases.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with farmer groups and cooperatives to foster loyalty and consistent supply.

2. Production & Post-Harvest Management

  • Oversee all post-harvest activities including sorting, drying, hulling, grading, and storage.
  • Monitor and manage processing schedules in alignment with sales forecasts and market demands.
  • Support quality assurance and certification efforts to ensure traceability and product consistency throughout the value chain.

3. Traceability

  • Ensure all coffee purchased from primary cooperatives is fully traceable from farm to main store through accurate and complete documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Officer to ensure that all coffee in storage is properly identified and traceable back to individual farmers.
  • Work with subcontracted milling service providers to enforce adherence to certification protocols and maintain traceability.
  • Coordinate with the Hand Sorters Supervisor and Inventory Officer to confirm that all hand-sorted coffee complies with certification requirements and remains traceable.
  • Liaise with the Certification and Logistics teams to secure Certificates of Organic Inspection prior to any consignment leaving the main store for export.

4. Reporting & Operational Support

  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate procurement, production, and inventory reports to management.
  • Support the implementation and enforcement of procurement and production policies and procedures.
  • Participate in farmer training and capacity-building initiatives, promoting sustainable agricultural practices and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in coffee procurement, production, or agribusiness operations.
    • Experience working with farmer groups, cooperatives, or community-based enterprises is an added advantage.
    • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Good knowledge of coffee value chain operations, quality management, and market requirements.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Willingness to work in rural settings and travel extensively within the Mt. Elgon region.
    • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical business practices.
    • Ability to ride or drive with a valid driving license.
